Commonwealth Scholarships Program for South Australia

Commonwealth Scholars

In 2017–18 Scope Global was selected to deliver the Australian Government’s $24 million Commonwealth Scholarships Program for South Australia, a four-year program that will extend until 2021.

This program provides opportunities for students aged 16 to 64 to undertake undergraduate, postgraduate and/or vocational education and training in skill shortage and priority industries in South Australia. Scope Global manages all aspects of the scholarship lifecycle.

806 scholarships were awarded this year to support increased employment in South Australia’s growth sectors.

In 2018–19, Scope Global will place approximately 100 scholars into industry internships. Placements are designed to align with each scholar’s program of study, improve employment outcomes for graduates in the program, and provide priority industries with resources in areas experiencing a skills shortage.

Samuel Teague Commonwealth Scholars

Scholar Profile: Samuel Teague
Scholarship funding backs aerospace robotics

Samuel was awarded a scholarship to support his PhD studies in aerospace robotics and machine learning at the University of South Australia.

Samuel’s research focuses on finding alternative methods of navigation when aircraft lose contact with GPS signals. This is significant to our defence industry, as it is common for a GPS signal to be jammed by enemy forces.

Through his scholarship, Samuel is undertaking a paid internship in South Australia’s defence industry – an invaluable opportunity he would not have otherwise had access to.

When Samuel completes his PhD he plans to contribute to defence research and help develop technology to keep Australia’s forces safe in combat.
