Hannah Kemp, a New Colombo Plan scholar based in South Korea, completed a volunteer role with the PyeongChang Organising Committee for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Hannah volunteered with the Games’ Event Services Team and one of her main responsibilities was assisting visiting media and spectators at the Alpensia Cross Country skiing venue. On some days she worked as an usher or marshal, and she also helped with crowd control and providing information to spectators. As a volunteer, Hannah was right in the middle of the action and she found the experience to be truly inspiring.
Scope Global manages the New Colombo Plan Scholarship Program on behalf of the Australian Government.
In April and May, Australia Awards-Endeavour scholars, fellows and alumni gathered at events in capital cities around Australia. These lively and collaborative sessions gave participants – who come from more than 40 countries, including Australia – the chance to network, exchange tips about studying abroad, and share strategies on common issues they encounter during their study program.
Each year, Scope Global works with the Department of Education and Training to hold networking events for current and past scholars and fellows.
Scope Global secured contracts to support and deliver three new programs in late 2017:
Our team took part in panel discussions at the 2018 International Education Association of Australia Scholarships and Fellowship Forum. Rod Sollesta, Deputy Team Leader, Australia Awards South and West Asia, participated in the ‘On-Award Engagement in Australia’ panel and spoke about Australia Awards South and West Asia’s menu of on-award engagement activities.
Alison White, Program Manager, Defence Cooperation Scholarship Program and Liselle Nelmes, Program Manager, Australia Awards Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships, both participated in a ‘sponsor speed dating’ event. This gave attendees the opportunity to speak directly with sponsors and ask specific program-related questions in small groups. As usual, the session was informative, a lot of fun and a great networking opportunity.
We’re collaborating as one team across countries and programs. In March, team members from Australia Awards South and West Asia, Skills for Inclusive Growth and our Adelaide office came together in Colombo, Sri Lanka. They shared examples of best practice and learned more about how we’re working together to deliver quality, inclusive and sustainable programs.
